The Union League of Philadelphia Interior Restoration and Renovation
With over 2,500 members, the club provides restaurant, conference, health club and residential services in its landmark building on South Broad Street. Anticipating celebration of its 150th Anniversary in 2013, the League is undertaking an effort to renovate and restore the interiors of the original and historically registered Union League building built in 1865 and 1909.
The interior renovation, guided by a comprehensive master plan, is planned to occur in six phases over nine years. With a total budget of $20 million the project’s scope includes renovation and restoration of main dining rooms, café/bar, sitting rooms, business center, conference rooms, main kitchen and employee areas. Plans also include the creation of a Civil War archives center, new business and conference center and new fitness and athletic facilities.
Phase III was completed in 2009. Conversion of the Marble Dining Rooms into The Founders Room and 1862 by Martin Hamann was completed to rave reviews of the food, service and venues in October 2009. The high end dinging room and members' corridor renovation was performed in phases in occupied space. Construction was completed in just five months on a fast track basis.
In 2009, work began on Phase IV, converting the former Boker Dining Room into the Foundations of the League's Heritage Center. The Center will create administrative, archives storage, library and exhibition space required to conduct the activities of the League's three Foundations and properly store and exhibit its extensive Civil War era and League historical collections. Completion is scheduled for spring 2011.
Phase IV is currently underway for the Foundations of the League's
